— President Trump, statement on executive order.
What President Obama did in 2011 was to place put a slowdown on visa applications, and to increase scrutiny of about 58,000 more in progress, from Iraq following the discovery that two Iraqi refugees granted asylum in the U.S. had been enemy combatants. This caused visa applications to slow down for six months, though refugees were still processed at a much slower rate. In essence, this was temporary "extreme vetting" following a specific and credible threat.
What the current President has done is not similar to that. Saying so is disingenuous at best, and a lie.
